The Importance of Chimney Inspections for Brightwaters, NY Homeowners
One of the best features of your home is a fireplace, but it needs to be taken care of properly in order to work as it should. Not properly maintaining your fireplace can cause headaches instead of creating comfort.
As a responsible fireplace owner, you take care of your fireplace and chimney by performing routine cleanings and maintenance when necessary. Chimney inspections are just as important! According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America, they should be done at least once a year. If your fireplace is used on a regular basis, it might need more frequent inspection.
If you’re one of the many people that have been overlooking the importance of having a CSIA-certified chimney sweep inspect your chimney every year, read on to find out why it’s important.
Moisture damage is frankly one of the worst problems that can happen to a chimney. Masonry and mold don’t mix, but because a chimney is constantly exposed to the elements and extreme temperatures, it’s more vulnerable to moisture damage than you might think. All it takes for a chimney to suffer from this kind of damage is one or two small cracks in a few bricks or some missing mortar joints. Once moisture has seeped inside, things can get ugly fast anyway- water will start leaking into your home, causing major pipe issues, resulting in even larger problems like water leaks. If you catch any underlying issues early on, they’re an easy fix before they lead to these kinds of problems. During a routine chimney inspection with our Brightwaters , NY company, we’ll do an in-depth assessment of where moisture could seep in and then make repairs as necessary so that everything stays dry and safe.
Improved Efficiency
A fireplace creates reliable heat; however, if it’s damaged, blocked, or isn’t functioning properly, the amount of heat it generates will be reduced. In order to ensure your fireplace continues to heat your Suffolk County home, routine chimney inspections are a must. During an inspection, a Brightwaters, NY chimney sweep will be able to detect and correct any potential problems that could reduce the efficiency of your fireplace – a rusted damper, a damaged flu, a clog, etc. – and make any necessary repairs.
Chimneys are an important factor in home safety, and experts say specific inspections by a certified, experienced technician will help keep your family as safe as possible. A burry or damaged chimney is capable of igniting flammable gas that collects around it—all it takes is one small crack in the chimney and the gas could lead to a serious fire that can easily travel through walls, immolate your home and the entire building. The best way to reduce the risk of this happening is through regular inspections from a qualified, experienced vendor with advanced equipment An experienced Brightwaters, NY chimney sweep will use the most advanced equipment to perform a thorough assessment of the structure and will address any problems that could be potential fire

Brightwaters is a village in the southwestern part of the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 3,103 at the time of the 2010 census.
Brightwaters was developed in the early 20th Century by the T.B. Ackerson Company, which was known for its work in Brooklyn.
By 1916, locals felt that their community, which at the time was still an unincorporated part of the Town of Islip, would be better off if they were to incorporate as a village, citing concerns over how their community was being taxed and how they had to pay for private subscriptions for things which the believed should have been provided through taxes paid to Islip. This led to locals signing a petition to incorporate Brightwaters as a village. The petition was given to the Town of Islip on September 20, 1916, and Brightwaters became an incorporated village on November 30, 1916.
Learn more about Brightwaters.During a cleaning, the sweep will use specialized rods and brushes to remove blockages, soot, and buildup from within the fireplace, chimney liner, chimney cap, and throat of the chimney. This includes the smoke chamber, the smoke shelf, the damper, and the firebox.
When your chimney is not cleaned for a long time, a substance called creosote keeps building up in the flue during the use of the fireplace. This creosote is highly flammable and can lead to a dangerous chimney fire .
The best time to clean chimneys in your home is in the warmer months, between spring and late summer.
Even if you no longer fire-up your fireplace, you still need to have your chimney cleaned and inspected annually. Think of it like an annual physical for your house.
