How can you be sure that you’re hiring the right chimney service professional? By doing your due diligence and researching a few different candidates before you decide who to hire. During your research, here’s a look at some of the most crucial factors that you’re going to want to be on the lookout for to determine if a Suffolk County company will provide reliable chimney services.
The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to educating professionals about proper chimney maintenance and repair. A certification from this organization is considered the gold star standard in the fireplace and chimney industry, as it indicates a chimney specialist has received the proper training and is up-to-date in the most recent techniques and strategies, and that they adhere to rigorous safety requirements. To ensure the best results, make sure the Northport, NY chimney sweep you hire has a valid certification from the Chimney Safety Institute of America.
Sure, a newcomer to the chimney cleaning and repair industry may be able to deliver reliable results, but when it comes to something as important as your chimney, do you really want to leave anything to chance? To ensure your peace of mind, hiring a well-established Northport, NY chimney sweep that’s been serving the Suffolk County for several years is highly recommended. The longer a chimney specialist has been in business, the more hands-on experience they will have, and they’ll draw on that experience when they’re cleaning, inspecting, and/or repairing your chimney.
You’re also going to want to make sure that the chimney service you hire is fully insured. No matter how knowledgeable and experienced the professional may be, there’s always a chance that something could go wrong. In the event that the technician sustains an injury while working on your chimney or damages your Suffolk County property, their insurance will cover the cost of any related expenses. Be sure to ask for proof of insurance before you hire a Northport, NY chimney sweep, and check to make sure that the policies are valid; otherwise, if something does go wrong and they aren’t insured, you’ll end up being hit with an unexpected bill.
You can tell a lot about the chimney services that a company provides by speaking with clients they’ve worked with. When you’re investigating Northport, NY chimney sweeps, ask for a list of references and take the time to get in touch with a few of them. Inquire about the chimney services the company provided and whether or not they would recommend hiring them. If a chimney company won’t furnish a list of references or if they do but you have a hard time getting in touch with them, proceed with caution; reputable chimney specialists will always offer references that you can speak with.

Northport is a historic maritime village on the north shore of Long Island, New York. Initially designated Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists, the area was officially renamed Northport in 1837. In 1894, in an effort to localize governance, the community incorporated as a village.
The original inhabitants of the area now known as Northport were the Matinecocks, one of 13 Native American tribes of Long Island. The Matinecocks called this land Opcathontyche, which meant “wading place creek”. After Dutch interest a few years earlier, the land was sold by Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecocks, to three Englishmen in 1656.
With land that was well suited for farming, the early settlers grazed cattle on pastures around the harbor. The area soon became known as Great Cow Harbour. (The nearby hamlet of was known as Little Cow Harbour.) The oldest house still standing in Northport, the Skidmore House on Main Street, was built in 1761. In 2009 the house was put up for sale, sparking the village to pass a historical preservation law.Woodbine Avenue and Northport Harbor, circa 1900
In the early 19th century Great Cow Harbor was still a rural farming community. By the 1830s the village contained only eight dwellings. But a new industry of shipbuilding brought rapid change and growth. The village shifted away from its farming roots as shipbuilding became the community’s primary industry.
